Minzu University of China (MUC) is one of China’s most important comprehensive universities, and is titled with "Project 211"、"Project 985"and "World-class Universities andFirst-class Disciplines", The titles are honored to the best universities in China. The university is located in Haidian District of Beijing, where there are many famous universities. It is near the National Library of China to its south, and the Chinese “Silicon Valley”—ZhongguancunScience Parkto its north. The university is renowned for its highly distinctive ethnic characteristics. It also has a beautiful gardenlike campus, something rarely seen in northern China.

I.Admission information

i.Degree programs

The standard schooling length of bachelor’s degree students, master’s degree students, and doctor’s degree students are 4 years, 2-3 years, and 3 years respectively. The students may apply for advancing or postponing graduation. For details of specific majors offered, please refer to the appendix. The application isopenfrom March to May every year.

ii.Non-degree programs

Chinese language student:

The duration of study lasts for one semester or more. Classes begin in the middle of February and end of August every year. Based on students’ Chinese proficiency, classes are arranged for complete beginner, beginner, elementary, intermediate and advanced. There are less than 20 students in every class. Chinese Courses include comprehensive Chinese, Chinese listening, Chinese speaking, Chinese reading, and Chinese writing and Great Wall Chinese. Students may also select free-of-charge elective coursessuch as Chinese ethnic language, folk dance, China’s ethnic music instrument, Chinese calligraphy, painting, paper-cut, martial art and etc.

General advanced student:

Students can studyvarious specialties at a certain department or college for one semester or more and will takeclass with Chinese undergraduate students.

Senior advanced student:

Students can studyvarious specialties at a certain department or collegefor one semester or more with Chinese graduate students and under supervisor’sguidance.

iii.Short-term Programs

Such short-term programs areopen to international students as Chinese language, Chinese ethnic culture, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese musical instrument, Chinese ethnic dance, and Chinese ethnic language, with the study period ranging from 4 to 8 weeks.Such programs are customized upon requirements of certain groups.

1.B. A. of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (for international students only)

Schooling length:4 years

Objective: to train advanced international Chinese talent, who, after four year’s study, are required to grasp the basic knowledge and theory of Chinese, masterthe skills of Chinese listening, speaking, readingand writing, have sound Chinese writing and oral expression ability,obtaina comprehensive understanding of China’s national situation and culture, be able to teachChinese or to communicate in Chinese correctly, fluently and properly, and bequalified for teaching Chinese or working in cultural communication, journalism, translation or interpretation and foreign trade.

2.Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages

Schooling length: 2 years

Objective: to train practical and compound talents who are expected to master the professional knowledge and basic theory of Chinese as well as the skills of teaching Chinese to speakers to other languages and theabilitiesof cross-cultural communication, to be qualified for Chinese globalization and Chinese teaching in various universities and schools by emphasizing Chinese teaching ability training, a series of intensive courses and overseas teaching practice.

3.Ph.D. of International Chinese Language Teaching

Schooling length: 3 years

Objective: to train advanced, compound and professional talents with global vision, who can not only undertake program planning and management, but also can carry out Chinese teaching and relevant macro and micro researchin Chinese Language Globalization.
